Diseases, Plagues, and Catastrophes! – Phylloxera
December 13 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm$60
Join us at North Loop Wine & Spirits for Pests, Diseases, and Catastrophes – Phylloxera! Who would have thought a couple years of sickness could impact so many things? In a nod to our current state of the world, we’ll cover one of the most important blights to affect the history alcoholic beverages over the last couple hundred years, Pylloxera.
In this particular tasting, we’ll investigate the lasting impact that a little aphid often refered to as “The Great Devastator” had on wine, beer, and spirits from the mid-19th century onward. This will be good fun for history buffs and wine connoisseurs alike. In an interesting twist to the typical wine format, we’ll only be featuring red wines for this event.
Pests, Diseases and Catastrophes is our series of classes which investigates the wine producer’s ceaseless battle with mother nature. Other upcoming themes include Fire, Climate Change, Earthquakes, Frost, as well as further out themes such as War, and Urbanization. Super uplifting stuff! But important to consider when seeking to understand the difficulties and happy surprises that go into the a bottle of wine.
