From Switzerland in the North to the island of Sicily in the Mediterranean, Italy produces a head-spinningly vast array of wines. Year after year, it trades back and forth with France the world title of largest wine producing nation. While some of its production numbers are astonishing – the region of the Veneto alone produces over 1 billion bottles of wine each year – there are numerous appellations throughout Italy which are sustained by the efforts of just a few families. A dedication to its viticultural tradition seems to permeate every pour of Italian culture. Italy is complex and certainly not the easiest country to approach from a learning standpoint. It boasts over 500 officially identified native varietals and diverse geography, it might seem to be a herculean task to introduce the wines of this country in just one class. But it isn’t, and we will, in 7 glasses.

The World Of Wine Series introduces 100 wines from 100 of the world’s most famous appellations. As with all of our events, we use wine as a way to connect dots; we draw lines between flavors, farming, culture, and beyond. It’s a way to sip wine and engage the world in ways that that can be sometimes hilarious, at times deadly serious, but most importantly, always intoxicatingly interesting.
